I started playing Go in the mid-90's thanks to Rob Corell starting work at Sim-Tex (he introduced several of us to the game). Earlier in my life I'd not enjoyed abstract pure strategy games like Chess very much, but Go grabbed me. I went to about 8 US Go Congresses, and also played in many local tournaments in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. In the first year or so I reached AGA 8K, then my progress slowed down, and I was stuck around 6K/5K/4K for very long time indeed. My last US Go Congress was 2004 (Rochester NY). In 2005 I missed it due to a summer trip to Esperanto events in Europe, and then I moved to Poland. I went to the European Go Congress in Austria in 2007.
After the EGC, I am currently cautiously optimistic that I seem to be making progress again, but in fits and starts.
